About Cornwall, Brittany AND Normandy

September 18th to October 2nd, 2001 with Joyce James CTC and Kathryn Heuss

Come join us for a memorable trip through the fabled lands of Cornwall, Brittany and Normandy.

We will visit the legendary kingdom of King Arthur--from Merlin’s Cave at Tintagel to Bodmin Moor, where his sword Excalibur was hurled into the outstretched hand of the Lady of the Lake.

Enjoy the variety of scenery: the surf off the coast of Cornwall and its sheltered beaches; the gentle rural landscapes of Brittany and Normandy. Visit the artists’ colonies of St. Ives and Pont Aven; marvel at the sights of Mont-St-Michel, in Normandy and its counterpart, St. Michael’s Mount in Cornwall.

This is also a trip into history, encompassing the tin mining in Cornwall, the Normandy Beaches of the Second World War. We will also visit sites that inspired the literature of Poldark, Daphne du Maurier’s Jamaica Inn, and the setting for some of Rosamunde Pilcher’s novels.

Savour the distinctive cuisine of each area; in Cornwall; cream teas and pasties, staples of the tin miners; Breton seafood and galettes; Calvados (apple brandy) and special cheeses of Normandy.

You will take back the memories of the Bayeux Tapestry, the fine lacework of Brittany, the intricately-carved armoires of Normandy, and Monet’s gardens at Giverny
