Notes
from Joyce James CTC about the Paris Extension:
This March I spent a wonderful two weeks in Paris and left with many
ideas for our Paris extension–in fact, more than we can possibly see in
the three days scheduled for our stay there! My time in Paris was a delightful
and stimulating mélange of visits to historical sights, colourful local
markets, parks, quaint neighbourhoods, the Musée-de-Cluny
,
Musée
d’Orsay (the gallery of the Impressionists),
and a memorable concert of Chopin and Mozart at the Eglise
Saint-Séverin in the Latin Quarter. I also very much enjoyed my visit
to a Paris landmark, the bookstore Shakespeare
and Co., on the Left Bank and very close to the Sorbonne.Everything
was in easy walking distance–the only time I took the subway (‘le Métro’)
was the day that I visited Montmartre.
Both tour escorts will be available to plan memorable routes and
accompany you on your excursions. Let us know your interests and preferences.
Our three-star hotel is the Hotel
La Tour Notre-Dame on the Left Bank, just across the Seine and within
easy walking distance of Notre-Dame and the Louvre. Our stay
in Paris will not be solely for shopping but I did manage to find a number
of extremely interesting shops, and have listed them below.
Shops:
Le
Rouvray: A busy quilt store on the Left Bank, within sight of Notre
Dame, which carries a large selection of fabrics and patterns. (link
may not be working yet)
Just across
the charming square from Le Rouvray is the needlework shop called Tapisseries
de la Bûcherie. The store carries an extensive selection of designs
and yarns.
La
Droguerie: A treasure trove of yarn, buttons (probably the widest selection
in Paris), ribbons and patterns. The store is located very close to a street
of kitchenware shops. (Website under construction.)
Le Bon Marché
Department Store: Where you can shop for a number of brand-name yarns, plus
buttons and ribbons. I t is often less crowded than the Right
Bank department stores, and there is a pleasant park in front where you
can rest after shopping. Be sure to visit the food court with its vast selection
of fruit, vegetables, cheeses and interesting products.
Anny
Blatt: Exclusively
sells Anny Blatt yarns.
Petit
Faune: a childrens’ clothing store with a small but delightful collection
of yarns and patterns.
